Activities in the Livradois Forez and Saint-Anthème
The Vallée de l’Ance in the ‘Livredois Forez’ is an ideal region to spend your holidays. Every season has its own charm. Do you like cycling or walking through natural landscapes? In the Vallée de l’Ance it looks like time stands still. Mass tourism doesn’t exist here. People live in harmony with nature.
Discover the unspoilt villages like they were in the old days. The old-fashioned ‘bar-tabac’ at the village square. After spending the day exploring it is lovely to sit down on a terrace watching everyday French life.

Le Moulin Malin
Natural landscape in the Livradois Forez and Saint-Anthème
The Vallée de l’Ance is situated in the nature reserve ‘Livradois Forez‘. In the reserve you will find unspoilt nature in the mountains, valleys and mountain plateaus.
You can take an incredible walk through the ‘Hautes Chaumes du Forez’ on the Col des Supeyres around Saint-Anthème. Enjoy the food of ‘Jasserie Le Coq Noir‘ before or after the walk. In the living area of the old farm you will find Le Coq Noir.
When you are heading out on foot, by bike, car or motorcycle the natural landscape is breathtaking. Along the way you will come across a lot of wildlife. Don ‘t forget to take the binoculars from your room to watch the wildlife close by.
When you are heading outdoors for the day it is unlikely to find a restaurant for lunch. We can provide a packed lunch of local produce.
Sporting activities in the Vallee de l'Ance
Visit Le Moulin Malin to extend the borders of your physical capacity. Do you accept the challenge? Experienced cyclists can indulge themselves while cycling in the Livradois Forez. The cols in this region are often part of the routes of the Tour de France and the Critérium du Dauphiné. This year, on 13 en 14 July 2019 you can see the Tour de France around Le Moulin Malin. On 13 July they will finish in Saint-Étienne and on 14 July they start in Saint-Étienne and pass via Usson-en-Forez, which is 15 minutes from us. Every year from the town of Ambert the cycling tour, ‘Les Copains Cyfac’ takes place. Les Copains Cyfac takes you through the nature reserve Livradois Forez. Cyclist can choose between a one-day, two-day or three-day tour. Also for mountain bikers there are marked trails of 60 and 83 kilometers in the region.You can find an overview of the challenges in the region on the website ‘cols cyclisme‘. Not just cyclists will enjoy themselves, mountain bikers also will find unlimited possibilities. Through the surrounding mountains and forests of Le Moulin Malin you will find a lot marked mountain bike trails. Close by Le Moulin Malin you will find ‘Prabouré‘. In winter a family ski area with different ski runs and cross-country trails. and in summer a center with sporting activities for young and old. Make a trip by a kick bike or conquer your scare of heights with a canopy walk. Not exciting enough? The zip line provides a unique experience. Along this 800 meter long zip line visitors cross with a speed of 80 kilometers per hours at heights of 110 meter off the forest floor. An exciting adventure and gorgeous views as an extra bonus.We haven’t got a pool but you can go for a refreshing dive in the natural bathing pond in Saint Anthème. Which only is a 10-minutes drive of Le Moulin Malin.
You come to the Auvergne for culture? Go and see one of the many medieval villages like Ambert, Saint-Bonnet-le-Château or Le Puy-en-Valey.
Le Puy-en-Valey one of the most extraordinary cities in France. Stroll through the medieval streets. Enter a traditional lace shop, one of the many churches or the cathedral. Unique is the small St-Michel-d’Aiguilhe Chapel on top of the St Michel Rock. This 10th century little chapel is build on top of a needle lava and rises above the city. It becomes even more special if after sunset projections are shown on the mountains and churches. A fantastic must-see sight. This year’s ‘Puy de Lumières‘ starts at 3 May until 29 September (until 1 July only Friday, Saturday and holidays)
The third week of September the annual Renaissance festival, Roi de l’Oiseau’. takes places in the city center. The city center is rebuild to the Renaissance period.On Saturday morning in Ambert you will find the ‘marché des producteurs’, A market with local products made by local producers. Every Thursday morning the weekly market. Combine a visit to one of the markets with the cheese museum La Maison de la Fourme d’Ambert‘. Here you will find everything you want to know about the famous cheese. You can also follow cookery workshops in ‘la Maison de la Fourme d’Ambert’. On your way to Ambert you pass the famous paper mill ‘Richard de Bas’. This is one of the last surviving paper mills in the Ambert region. The paper mill still functions today, with 200 to 300 hand-made pieces of paper made each day, using the traditional artisanal methods of the 15th century. They create lovely papers and one of the nicest is with real flowers. ‘Richard de Bas’ is well known for this. In Craponne-sur-Arzon there is the annual music festival ‘The Green Escape‘. The ‘Green Escape’ started as a country-festival but has become a large festival with different styles of music. This year on 26, 27 en 28 July 2019.
Relax and do nothing

Would you like to do nothing? Of course, that is possible. Relax in the sun or at one of the shaded spots in our garden where you can enjoy the magnificent views.
